Recognition and appreciation for local veterans
veterans n Nearly 30 veterans and their partners gathered at the Municipal Hall on 24 June to receive the recognition and appreciation for what they had achieved from Mayor Emile Jaensch. The occasion was the annual Oegstgeest Veterans Day, on the Friday before the national celebration.
Mayor Jaensch placed the veterans squarely in the current situation, with a reference to the “Russian invasion of Ukraine [which] makes it even more clear that peace and security are fragile [and] our democratic values are not guaranteed.”
The veterans in attendance had participated in many, if not all, of the missions that the Netherlands Armed Forces have participated in since the Second World War: New Guinea, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and even more.
Following the mayor’s remarks and a presentation by a former reserve lieutenant-colonel and business banker on the economic activities carried out to strengthen the economies of areas of operation, the veterans took part in a group photograph on the steps of the Municipal Hall.
That was followed by an Indonesian rice table meal, served by, among others, the mayor and the aldermen of Oegstgeest.
Concerten in de Waterlelie
muziek n Zondagmiddag 3 juli zijn er weer concerten in de Waterlelie in de Leidse Hout.
Om 13.30 uur treedt Koorschool Utopa op. De koorschool Utopa werd in 2013 door Rozemarijn Kalis opgericht als ‘De Leidse Koorschool’.
Zij wilde een plek creëren waarin alle kinderen een goede en vrolijke muziekopleiding kunnen krijgen, ongeacht hun achtergrond, ervaring of talent.
Daarna is het om 14.45 uur de beurt aan Oost-Europakoor Mila. De zangeressen dit koor zongen dit seizoen veel Oekraïense liederen, o.a. tijdens de dodenherdenking in de Pieterskerk. Een aantal van deze liederen staat ook nu op het programma. Daarnaast klinken er liederen uit Turkije, Slowakije, Polen en Armenië.
